Why? I always liked my history classes, more or less. Not enough to go into the field but enough to like it. Probably the most interesting history course I ever took was in college. Admittedly the class wasn't that great. It was literally a week every week of lectures broken up by a midterm, a final and a paper. |

However, we had a book of source documents that we used, both for the paper and in the class. That was really interesting, to see history that was "undigested". |
It was very interesting to be able to read source documents and learn from those, rather than just reading something condensed in a history book. This interest continued later, as I was working in a bookstore when the movie "Titanic" came out. With it came a ton of books and other materials .including a set of source materials including news reports, blueprints, government findings, etc.
What really sparked this site, however, was 9/11 and the aftermath. This was the first major historical event to happen with the Internet. And it shows. Archives of websites on that day exist. Hundreds of people have entries in their Weblogs (online diaries). I work on a search engine and recently had to reindex all the 9/11 content, including blogs, remberances, etc. It was interesting to see what people had to say, to read people's stories, from people who were there. However, I didn't see much of the West Coast represented (of course the closest 9/11 event to here was the Pentagon so ). And I think it had a very different effect on us than it did on the East Coast.
Thus begins this project.
I am on the West Coast, near Seattle. I grew up near Seattle (but south of where I am now), and went to school in Seattle for four years. The furthest "East" I have ever been is Yellowstone (and that was the summer of 2002). So for things not happening here that is an effect.
I am male, 27 years old, not married.
I am very into the Internet, check news sites etc. I also try to catch the news at night. I've also had cable forever, except for 3 years in college and 1 year out. This expands my news sources.
I am not a morning person (even with work). This had a definite effect on 9/11.
