he Pre-Raphaelites were a group of British artists who painted in the mid-1800's. They formed a society called the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood because they did not like the direction British painting was going. They were influenced by the works of painters before the time of Raphael and by the new emerging technology of photography.
heir works cover romantic and literary themes. They are popular today for many reasons. I suppose because of their depiction of famous literature and its themes, and because of their depiction of women. I had the opportunity to see some of their works at a traveling show in Seattle, and the colors used are amazing. They seem to jump off the canvas at you. Founding members
